More Paintings from India Photos

I'm still enjoying my friend Bunny's photos from her recent trip to India and using them for inspiration for my figure drawing practice at least weekly.  Here are 3 more paintings.  In the first one, it appears as if this young boy was posing for a single photo.  The second one appears to be a market.  The vendor has two children playing on the ground next to her.  The 3rd is one figure from a group photo.  I was very drawn to this image as I was in the middle of rereading Khalid Hosseini's second book A Thousand Splendid Suns and the two women in the story were in burqas whenever they left their home.  Although this is not a classic burqa, I was drawn to this figure walking along the street and just had to draw and paint her image.  Next week - mujahideen and women in blue burqas from Afghani photos I'm collecting from the web.

Wonderful sketches, Shirley. I like the soft tones in your washes, especially the pinks and greens in the top one!

Great paintings, it must be fun to be a virtual traveler and investigate another culture through art. Maybe I'll try that sometime.

I particularly love the third painting of the woman, Shirley. Looking forward to more of these.

As usual I haven't got around all the blogs I love to visit as frequently as I should but in some ways it's rewarding because I see Great Leaps Forward - hands and figures, looking very good!

Wonderful sketches! I'm reading a book about Pakistan (Three Cups of Tea: Three Cups of Tea: One Man’s Mission to Promote Peace . . . One School at a Time) about an American mountain climber cared for in a small northern Pakistan village after nearly dying on his descent and his commitment to the village to come back and build a school). It's a fascinating part of the world and culture to learn about and so much different when looked at one person at a time than the way we normally see it on the news.

Oh Shirley, these really capture the desert feeling...beautiful!

I really like the third painting of the woman walking, the pink is wonderful. Also it's amazing that she's so covered up but you've expressed so much that's individual about her - there's a real sense of her person somehow. Lovely work.

oh these are great too! Somehow I missed them...sheesh. Let me know when you want to draw some inspiration from Guatemala travel photos!
